Gotta Gotta Gotta

Have you ever been so dialed into a task or a project where any interruption provoked irritation or anger?

Have you ever been on a hike where you knew that the summit was going to be so amazing that you just rushed passed everything along the way?

Have you ever been on a walk when you were so excited about your destination – a person, a shop, a treat – that you didn’t notice anything else along the way?

I find that this is one of my greatest temptations every year as we cross the threshold from one year to another.

  • Gotta get it gotta get it gotta get it done. Or at least planned.
  • Gotta get it gotta get it gotta get it figured out. Or at least analyzed.
  • Gotta get it gotta get it gotta get ….

What I would love to focus on in the quarter of Sprouts (and my other work) is noticing, slowing down, trusting that the pace that feels right for me is the right pace for me.

I read in a book recently (maybe Body of Work, Pam Slim) that comparing my success (process, and body of work) with someone else’s (usually and most easily Marc’s) can only mess up my definition of success – not accurately measure my success. Marc’s success and Emily’s success will never mean the same thing. So to compare one to the other only creates a cloud of confusion.

What I need to do is to know what success means for me. I create the definition, based on all the parts of me. And that allows me to not just slow down, but to notice and use for my growth and advisement, all the bits and pieces along the path.

  • Gotta get it gotta get it gotta get it done
  • Gotta let it gotta let it pause and see some sun
  • Wanna let it wanna let it wanna take it slow
  • Gonna let it gonna let it gonna let it grow
