When do you stop?
When do you ‘give up’?
When do you get to ‘that will just have to do’?
I’m an extraordinary planner – I really am. Except for the fact that I still over-estimate my capacity. I approach special events with such levels of optimism, that I forget to include certain things into my equation of what can be done.
Like conversations. Like quiet and stillness. Like sitting and staring at the tree. Like laughing. Like rest.
What would be possible if I began my list with those things that I so easily forget? Because it turns out most of those bits actually represent the values which are most important in my life.
What could the next two weeks look like with this to-do list?
People – listen, hug, laugh, linger
Home – enjoy, care for, make smell good, fill with beautiful and interesting sounds
World – smile, say thank you, walk with kind patience, be safe
Stuff and to-do’s – attend with a light hold
When I put the stuff and to-do’s ahead of the other things, I get tight fisted and fragile hearted. I end up placing my identity in conquering not connection. I tire myself (and my people) out.
When I start from my center – my values – especially in these seasons with a particular charge – I feel the wind blow around me with my feet firmly planted. I focus on what grows and fills me. I remember to breathe.
The stuff and to-do’s, they can most often wait. And if they can’t, they can be done while you listen to what brings you joy and with a smile in your heart.
Have a wonderful holiday season.
Remember, Light and Love not only win, they live within and among us.
